Liposuction
Liposuction or lipoplasty is a form of cosmetic surgery which can be performed on the entire body with the aim of removing fat from areas of the body such as the stomach, buttocks, hips, thighs, upper arms, chin, the cheeks and neck. Liposuction has come a long way in its advancement with many techniques now being performed such as the ultrasound assisted, the super wet technique and the tumescent technique. Using these techniques the surgeon can deliver results that are more precise and they also aid in a speedier recovery.
Tumescent technique – Liposuction method
This is a relatively new method of liposuction that is used in order to reduce post-operative bruising, swelling and pain. The technique is also used to avoid the need for a blood transfusion as blood loss is minimized using this method. With the tumescent technique, the excess fat is injected with a large amount of anaesthetic liquid before the liposuction is performed. This liquid will then cause the fat to become swollen and firm, this then allows the cannula to travel more smoothly underneath the skin as the fat is removed.
